How do free weekends work on steam

Nono, wasn't trying to imply anything. Just was noting I'd never have a reason to use it :P. Well, sure, it's a nice way to use the free weekend to fit your own schedule. I'm assuming a lot of people won't pace themselves to such a limited use, however :P. But ,getting the correct free weekend package ID isn't easy for normal users If your running the script as is that's not an issue.

You only need to know specific IDs if you only want to add that alone. You can just make a reference copy of the script and check for new IDs added as needed, in theory, even if the ID isn't available otherwise.

If you don't mind taking the time to do a lot of potential 'hide in account' edits, the script as-is may be easier. If you're referring to hiding from library then it's unnecessary as the majority of what it adds are F2P games and demos which don't show in the library until they are installed.

As I mentioned in my thread when I brought this up weeks ago before realising it was applying to all free weekend games I didn't notice this happening until running the script added free dlc for a game that had previously had a free weekend.

The dlc bound the game to my library just like any other f2p title. I don't suppose it has an exclusion subscript for 'Not Interested' games, at least? If nothing else, it'll still flood your product activations page, which is still a nuisance. I personally don't see that as an issue. How often do most people actually need to use that page. It's not like it gives a wealth of information.

Basically some weekends certain games are on sale and if the devs wish, they can let the game be free to play on steam for a certain time and then expires usually on when the weekend is over. Two questions about this: 1. Will the Steam Cards stay in my inventory after the game is gone? When the weekend is over and the game disappears, does it get rid of all the game memory from your PC?

Or does it leave stuff like Saved Game files lying around in your computer's files? Thanks in advance. Cathulhu View Profile View Posts. Originally posted by Cathulhu :.

One additional marketing feature of Steam is the 'free weekend,' where customers have temporary access to your game for a specified period of time. Users can try out the game free, but lose access when the period expires unless they buy the game.

Typically, a Free Weekend is also accompanied by a discount. Here are some basics to understand how and why to utilize a Free Weekend. Frequently Asked Questions What kind of game makes a good fit for a free weekend? Typically, we'd run a Free Weekend on a product that is primarily a multiplayer experience, or at minimum has very high re-playability.

For example, a five-hour-long narrative adventure game is probably a bad fit, but a team-based multiplayer shooter might be a better. Free Weekends are intended to introduce players to the game and motivate them to become a permanent customers, so games that can be completed or 'beaten' in a few days probably won't benefit. How do I know if a Free Weekend was successful? We built out some automated reporting for Free Weekends, so that you can see a data breakdown afterwards on the Sales and Activations Reporting portal.

The automated stats will track new users, conversion rate, and gross revenue from conversions. What benefits should I expect from a Free Weekend? The primary benefit you should expect is some temporary increase in players, however you should think hard about why customers should care about trying your game now. It is important to remember that simply being 'free' does not automatically guarantee interest from customers, because there are already hundreds of great games available free all the time.
