If you were out for six weeks, you could start back up with days a week, scaling the workout as appropriate, and gradually work your way back up to days of consistent training at your normal workload over the same six-week period. Vacations are awesome! You know what might not be as awesome? However, be prepared to scale the workout for the same duration as you were gone. Meaning, you might be hitting your normal schedule, but the intensity piece might be tricky for a few weeks.

Training Age — Are you brand new to working out? Are you too sore to lift your arms overhead? How You Eat — Nutrition impacts everything including your recovery between workouts.

Other Stressors — If your job, family life, or other obligations are pushing you to the max, an intense workout might be the last thing you need or it might be exactly what you need. You are only going to get stronger and faster if you allow your muscles a chance to recover.

I have to do that at least x per week mostly because the load for certain WODs is too heavy and beyond my ability and it makes a huge difference in performance, intensity, and recovery.

If im extra sore or some part of my body is feeling over worked or worn out, ill take the rest of the week off until i start feeling normal again. Connect with. Create a Comment Account. As far as frequency goes: try to go to 3 times a week as quickly as possible. Working out 1 day and taking 1 day off is a good starting point. An example is working out on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and taking Tuesday, Thursday and the weekends off.

More experience? The CrossFit workout template suggests you work out 5 times per week using a schedule of working out 3 days and then taking 1 day off. If this frequency is really hard to follow because of your work, school schedule or family duties you can play around with it and maybe use a 5 days on, 2 days off schedule. However, do aim to get to workouts per week within reasonable time for best results. If you feel really tired and beat up because of training, long days at work or not enough sleep at night, just take an extra day off from training. Rest a bit more and come back in a few days re-energised and ready to kick some serious ass.
